Water Treatment Solutions:
My Water Leaves Green Stains
Green stains on plumbing fixtures come from “copper leaching”. The blue/green stains are actually oxidized copper particles extracted from your copper plumbing system. This is not good and there are only two reasons for this.
First: The pH of your water is not 7.2. The ideal pH factor for water is 7.2. When your pH is low it will actually remove copper particles from your copper plumbing system and some of the copper will stick to your fixtures and show up as blue/green stains.
This problem also destroys your plumbing system from the inside out. Eventually your copper plumbing system will spring a leak. The walls of your copper pipes become thin and small pin holes are created causing much regretted water damage.
This symptom is easily corrected with an acid neutralizer tank. Your water should be tested to determine if your pH is correct. Order a test kit now!
Second: If your pH is 7.0 to 7.3 and you are experiencing blue/green stains, it is possible that your plumbing system is suffering from electrolysis.
Electrolysis is the decomposition of metal by the action of an electric current passing through it. WOW!
Diagnosing electrolysis is very tough. It can be caused by many scenarios such as, but not limited to, two dissimilar metals touching each other, improper grounding of the plumbing system, phone wire touching the plumbing system, line voltage interference and even underground low voltage currents, etc., etc.
Needless to way, this is a difficult problem to diagnose and treat. There are many people working on electrolysis, however, they are far from an easy solution. We update this site when information of the latest technologies and solutions for treating electrolysis becomes available.
